Bedrooms at Newlands

Individual and Comfortable Spaces

As an older Victorian home, all our bedrooms are unique, with no two rooms the same. Each bedroom has been tastefully renovated and comes fully furnished as standard with a fully electric nursing bed, chest of drawers, a double wardrobe, and a bedside unit.

En-suite and Bathroom Facilities

Four bedrooms have an en-suite toilet and sink. All other bedrooms include a sink within the room and a deluxe wooden commode chair. These commode chairs are designed to be discreet, resembling an armchair during the day. At night, the seat cover can be removed to allow use as a commode, which many residents choose to have placed at the end of the bed for ease and comfort. Residents who prefer not to use a commode are always supported by staff to access one of the home’s toilets.

Making the Room Your Own

We actively encourage residents to make their bedroom their own. Personal touches such as photographs, pictures on the walls, shelves for treasured belongings, or bringing in their own bedding are always welcome. A resident’s bedroom is their personal space, and we will do everything we can to ensure it feels comfortable, familiar, and truly their own.

Safety and Peace of Mind

For added peace of mind, the home is equipped with a nurse call system, allowing residents and staff to request assistance whenever it is needed. This is connected to mobile devices carried by staff to ensure prompt response times. Where appropriate, pressure mats may also be used in bedrooms to support resident safety, with full discussion and consent obtained before they are introduced.

Televisions are welcome in bedrooms if residents choose to bring their own, helping them create a space that feels familiar and homely, just as it would in their own home.

Above all, we want every bedroom to feel like a real home, not just a place to stay.
