Our Team at Newlands
A Team That Puts Residents First
At Newlands, our team is at the heart of everything we do. Without them, Newlands would not be the home that it is. Our staff put residents first, taking the time to truly get to know each person as an individual, their likes and dislikes, what brings them comfort, and what makes them happy.
We have a team of over 45 staff, all of whom play an important role in the day-to-day life of the home. Many members of our team have worked at Newlands for many years, with some having been part of the home even before we took over in 2013. This continuity means residents are supported by familiar faces who know their routines well and can quickly notice if something isn’t quite right.
Consistency and Familiar Faces
We take a thoughtful approach to staffing and shift patterns. Our morning staff work mornings, our evening staff work evenings, and our night staff work nights. This consistency allows staff to build strong relationships with residents and provides reassurance, familiarity, and continuity of care.
Training and Professional Standards
All new staff receive thorough training and are given several weeks to settle in, get to know residents, and understand routines before working as part of the required staffing numbers. Ongoing training is a priority at Newlands, with staff completing mandatory annual training. Care staff are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council and have completed, or are working towards, relevant care qualifications. Senior Care Assistants are trained to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), and Care Assistants to SVQ Level 2 (or equivalent).
As a small, family-run home, we are a close-knit team who work together for the benefit of our residents. We also have our own team of trained bank staff who support the home when needed, including students studying nursing, physiotherapy, and social work, all of whom receive the same training and induction as our permanent staff.
Going the Extra Mile
What truly sets our team apart is the care and kindness they show every day. Many staff go above and beyond for residents, whether that’s bringing in a favourite treat someone has mentioned, taking extra time to help a resident look their best for a family occasion, or simply sitting for a chat when it’s needed most. Staff treat residents as they would members of their own family, building strong relationships not only with residents, but with their loved ones too.
Above all, our team helps make Newlands feel like a home, not just a place of care.
